On September 3, in Odessa, on the site where the prayer house of the Muslim community was located, the construction of a new Cathedral Mosque began. The event was solemn in nature and was held with the participation of the Mufti of Ukraine, representatives of state authorities and the diplomatic corps. This event is historic not only for the Muslims of Odessa, but for the whole of Ukraine.

Also on this day, a "Time Capsule" was laid at the construction site with a message for future generations. In it, Muslims who live now ask their heirs to "preserve and increase what we leave you."

The Muslim community of Odessa is one of the most numerous in Ukraine, and at the same time it has not had a religious building for more than 20 years, which could fully provide a comfortable realization of religious needs.

According to the city's imam Sheikh Ilyas Umarov, the construction is planned to be completed within two years, after which the mosque will be open not only for parishioners, but also for tourists and other citizens.

“The mosque will become the spiritual and educational center of Odessa, a place of peace and kindness. And our doors are open to everyone who wants to get acquainted with the religion of all the Prophets, ”he says.
